The 10th anniversary celebration event for Chandlers Steakhouse, which included a ribbon-cutting and re-grand opening, was held on May 25 at the restaurant at 9th and Grove streets. More than 200 people attended the event and a donation was made to the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.
If you work in a restaurant, marriage proposals are good for business. Happy couples lift the mood in the entire dining room and often turn into lifelong customers. That once-in-a-lifetime experience for them is pretty routine for restaurateurs.
High-end restaurants with nice decor can count on someone popping the question every week or two.
The kitchen is heating up once again as Idaho’s top chefs prepare to battle it out for one of the Gem State’s most sought-after titles, Culinary King of the Mountain. On April 11, McCall’s Shore Lodge will host the cooking competition as part of the resort’s second consecutive Spring Culinary Festival, April 10-12. Joining the iconic resort’s own Executive Chef Steven Topple will be Chris Kastner of CK’s Real Food in Hailey, Idaho; Wiley Earl of Àlavita and Fork restaurants in Boise and Aaron Wermerskirchen of Juniper on 8th, also in Boise.
The restaurants and bars in the City of Trees — Boise, Idaho, that is — boast appropriately beautiful woodwork, rambunctious yet overly courteous staffs, and craft cocktails which speak to the town’s once rough-and-tumble Western ways as much as they speak to the posh, cosmopolitan environs which infrastructure of industry and economy have brought to the place. After spending some time there, I found the best way to experience the town’s sprawling night life was to walk from place to place, watering hole to watering hole, before laying your head to rest for the night.
The film chronicles the history of viticulture in Idaho and explores the future of this burgeoning industry. It was produced by Peppershock Media of Nampa, with support from the Idaho Wine Commission, Idaho Department of Agriculture, the Idaho Commerce, division of Tourism, and many of Idaho’s wineries and vintners.

On April 5, Idaho chefs will compete for what is sure to become the Gem State’s most sought-after title. The cooking competition, which will operate much like Food Network’s hit show “Chopped,” will be hosted at McCall’s Shore Lodge as part of the resort’s inaugural Spring Culinary Festival, April 4-6.
I’d never been to Idaho before and after receiving a guidebook from the state’s office of Tourism, I was downright excited. I flew into Boise, the state capital, arriving in the afternoon. I found the land surprisingly flat, but with wonderful foothills in the distance.
My tour would start with a kick-off dinner for members of the International Food, Wine and Travel Writes Association at Chandlers, a favorite local restaurant known for their steaks and Idaho-sourced ingredients. Chandler’s was also the recipient of a 2013 Wine Spectator ‘Best of Award of Excellence’ for their impressive wine list.
Chandlers’ Dine Out menu includes a three-course meal for $30. Diners can choose between several different soups and entrees, plus enjoy dessert.
