Located in Washington’s Puget Sound, Taylor Shellfish Farms has been family-owned and operated for over 125 years. They are known for their sustainable practices, rich farming environments, and unmatched shellfish quality. Every oyster, clam, and mussel on your plate at Chandlers is flown in fresh and handled with the highest level of care.

Why We Trust Taylor Shellfish Farms

Taylor Shellfish operates across a variety of growing environments, from sandy tide flats and rocky shorelines to floating mussel rafts in nutrient-rich bays. These diverse habitats help produce shellfish with complex flavors and firm textures. The Pacific Northwest waters give each oyster a unique character, often referred to as “merroir,” similar to the terroir in winemaking.

Their most sought-after products include the Shigoku and Totten Inlet Virginica oysters, which are known for their deep cups and clean, briny flavor. Their tide-tumbled techniques and innovative farming methods produce shellfish that stand out in both taste and quality. Every oyster is UV-cured for 24 hours before shipping to ensure safety and freshness without compromising flavor.

Our Visit to Samish Bay: Where Chandlers Shellfish Begins

On a recent trip to Canada, we stopped just south of the border to visit Taylor Shellfish Farms’ Samish Bay Shellfish Market and Oyster Bar. Located along scenic Chuckanut Drive near Bellingham, this beautiful waterfront spot gave us an up-close look at where many of our oysters and clams begin their journey.

This location is more than just a market. It is a fully operating shellfish farm, a casual oyster bar, and a place where guests can enjoy fresh seasonal dishes with a glass of local wine or beer. While we were there, we watched farmers bring oysters and clams directly off the beach, offering a rare glimpse into the hands-on process that makes Taylor Shellfish so exceptional.
