Chandlers Garners Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence”

Chandlers is a recipient of a 2013 Wine Spectator ‘Best of Award of Excellence’ for their impressive wine list, placing them among the top restaurants worldwide and the highest ranked in the state of Idaho. The award was announced on the international magazine’s web site and will be in its August 31 issue that hits newsstands July 24. Wine Spectator has been honoring the world’s best wine lists annually since 1981. The awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

For the last 15 years, Chandlers has won Wine Spectator awards for their dedication to the art of wine paired with their premium dining experience but winning the Wine Spectator ‘Best of Award of Excellence’ has been a goal of Rex Chandler since relocating Chandlers to Boise from Ketchum in 2007. “It represents a significant milestone in my 40 year career to create an exclusive experience for not only our local community but also a premiere restaurant destination for national travelers to Boise,” said Rex Chandler, owner of Chandlers. “I must credit the expertise of Jeff Moore, our wine director, for guiding our team to this next level. I am very proud.”

Chandlers’ wine list was noted for featuring 640 wine selections from all over the world, with an inventory of over 6,000 bottles. Special attention is also paid to Chandlers for the careful serving of wine in hand blown Reidel glassware that is specific to the varietal.

To qualify for an award from Wine Spectator, the restaurant’s wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections. The overall presentation of the wine list is considered as well.  Lists that meet these requirements are judged on a global level, in all 50 states and 75 countries.  Judging categories are:

  1. Wine Director/Sommelier
  2. Wine Strengths
  3. Wine Selections
  4. Wine Pricing
  5. Corkage
  6. Cuisine Type/ Menu Prices
